One of the poshest pictures we have taken of Emily and Melissa. Ever. I'd hoped to scan in some snaps from when they were tiny so that I could say: "Wow look how they've changed," as it's their eighth birthday on Sunday. For some reason I haven't had time! Full reports to follow. Oh and this picture makes me cry. Perhaps it's pure horror that two six-year-olds have been allowed a smidgin of lipstick (more than I ever wear, must be their nan's!) or most likely, I'm a soppy old so and so.

- This blog was set up in 2006 as a resource for parents of multiple birth children. Then it moved on to include journalism, fiction, media requests and advice under the 'Write away' category as well as the odd bit of nonsense about my family and eating too much cake. They're absolutely gorgeous, Linda! No wonder it makes you cry. Was this taken at a wedding or something or is that just how they dress for breakfast? (If so, nice house!) Hannah and Lauren are six now and frequently put on their high heels and a bit of lippy (well, Body Shop lip balm) first thing in the morning.

Oh thanks Mark, that is lovely! Yes I'd avoided saying when and where this was taken.
A couple of years ago my mum came into some money (bingo, lottery or pension, I can't remember she has struck it rich a couple of times!) and she paid for me and Neil and Emily and Melissa and my brother and his family to go to Tenerife for the new year along with my mum and dad.
This was New Year's Eve - in a really nice hotel, it was an amazing and unforgettable night.
