I recently read a couple of articles about a book that claims that Josef Mengele was responsible for a town in Brazil called "The Land of Twins."
Jorge Camarasa, a historian from Argentina, wrote a book called Mengele: The Angel of Death in South America. Camarasa says that Mengele is responsible for the high proportion of blond-haired blue-eyed twins in the small Brazilian town of Candido Godoi.
It seemed incredible and, from what I could tell, the articles were written from press releases and nobody had actually read the book or looked at its documentation (it's only been published in Spanish). Then I read an article by Guy Walters, who said the story is "not likely."
Not that Guy Walters has the last word, but I have to admit that his article made me feel better about my initial skepticism of the book by Camarasa. I'm sure the story doesn't end here.
